Jammu, June 23: Advocate Ranjot Singh on Monday launched a sharp attack on Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council Secretary Nuzhat Gul, alleging large-scale irregularities in the functioning of the Sports Council and demanding an independent inquiry into the matter.
Addressing media persons, Singh claimed that deserving sportspersons have been denied justice due to alleged discrepancies in the selection and recognition process. He alleged that several decisions taken by the Sports Council have raised serious questions regarding transparency and fairness.
Singh said that young athletes across Jammu and Kashmir have repeatedly voiced concerns over what he described as “irregular practices” within the Sports Council. He urged the administration to initiate a thorough investigation into the allegations and ensure accountability of those found responsible.
The Congress leader and sports activist maintained that merit and transparency must remain the cornerstone of all sports-related selections and appointments. He further asserted that sportspersons who have worked hard to bring laurels to Jammu and Kashmir should not suffer due to alleged administrative lapses.
The remarks come amid continuing debates over sports quota selections and recognition of achievements under various government policies. Similar concerns regarding alleged irregularities in sports quota lists have been raised by sportspersons in the past as well.
Meanwhile, no official response from Sports Council Secretary Nuzhat Gul was immediately available regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report.
The development has sparked fresh discussions within the sports fraternity, with athletes and stakeholders demanding greater transparency in the functioning of sports institutions in Jammu and Kashmir.
