JAMMU, June 22: A delegation of the Jammu Kashmir Journalist Welfare Association (JKJWA), led by its President Sheikh Shahrukh, called on Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and highlighted several issues concerning the welfare and working conditions of journalists in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting, the delegation urged the Deputy Chief Minister to ensure suitable accommodation facilities for Jammu-based journalists in Srinagar during the upcoming Monsoon Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly. The members stated that adequate arrangements would enable media personnel to effectively perform their professional duties and ensure comprehensive coverage of Assembly proceedings.
The delegation also sought the timely issuance of media identity cards and Assembly accreditation passes for journalists assigned to cover the session. They emphasized that early issuance of passes would facilitate smooth access to the legislature and help journalists carry out their responsibilities without inconvenience.
Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised by the delegation and assured them that the genuine issues of the media fraternity would be considered sympathetically. He acknowledged the crucial role played by journalists in strengthening democratic institutions and promoting transparency and accountability.
The Deputy Chief Minister further assured the delegation that necessary measures would be explored to facilitate media personnel during the forthcoming Assembly session.
Expressing gratitude for the positive response, JKJWA President Sheikh Shahrukh said the Association remains committed to working for the welfare of journalists and safeguarding their professional interests. He expressed hope that the concerns projected by the Association would be addressed in the larger interest of the journalistic community and the free flow of information.
The delegation included Vice President Mohammad Jaffar, Aquib Aftab, Rukhsar Ahmed, Dr. Varun Pada, Angelina Stephen, Ankush Bhandari, Tariq Ahmed Lone, Mohd Ibrahim, and Tawseef Ahmed.
