Srinagar, Jun 10: Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, describing him as a “confused and frustrated” leader and alleging that his political conduct has reflected inconsistency and arrogance.
Addressing reporters, Sharma said he had repeatedly maintained that Omar Abdullah was a “confused and frustrated Chief Minister.”
Referring to Abdullah’s tenure in office, Sharma questioned whether the Chief Minister understood the responsibilities and direction associated with the oath he had taken.
“The person who does not know what line and direction he has to take after taking oath on the chair he occupies is a confused and frustrated Chief Minister,” Sharma said.
He alleged that during the past one-and-a-half years, Omar Abdullah had displayed confusion and frustration on numerous occasions.
Sharma said that the Chief Minister’s frustration had often manifested itself in what he termed as arrogance.
Turning his attention to the INDIA bloc, Sharma described the opposition alliance as a “network of fused bulbs” and accused it of lacking cohesion and clarity.
Referring to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he said that leaders who had earlier distanced themselves from the alliance were now extending support to it again, which, according to him, reflected political inconsistency within the bloc.
Sharma also referred to remarks previously made by CM Omar regarding the INDIA alliance.
He said that CM Omar had on several occasions publicly suggested that opposition parties should stop focusing on the 2029 Lok Sabha elections and instead look ahead to the 2034 elections.
Sharma questioned how the Chief Minister was now politically aligned with the same alliance leaders despite having made such observations in the past.
“This itself reflects the confusion and frustration prevailing within the INDIA bloc,” he said.
The BJP leader said that Omar Abdullah should revisit the decisions he had taken in the past and introspect about his political positions and statements.
Responding to a question on PoK, Sharma declined to comment.
He said the matter was akin to an international issue and therefore fell within the domain of the Ministry of External Affairs and those officially dealing with such subjects.
“For us, the Ministry of External Affairs and its officers are the competent authorities on such matters because it concerns territory outside our control. I am in an ordinary political role and it is not my place to comment on the PoJK issue,” Sharma said.
